The Reds Vows Not to Abandon Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Current Struggles, Says Arne Slot
Arne Slot has stated that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the team's slump and he has no intention of discarding their attacking style in quest for a solution. The head coach acknowledged that six losses in seven games was below standard ahead of Aston Villa's visit.
Increasing Scrutiny During Difficult Period
Liverpool's coach recognized the expectations were high before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he insisted that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of approximately £450 million.
"They say similar things," remarked Slot, whose side will meet Los Blancos in the continental tournament and play against the Citizens in the English top flight.
Player Depth Continues Unchallenged
The coach is convinced his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the schedule ahead". He said that the transfer window acquisitions in talents including the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through fitness issues, had left the club "in an excellent position for the short-term future and the distant prospects".
Team Cohesion Issues
When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm offering alibis. I can identify several explanations why we are struggling for victories or losing as much as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a performance streak as we had now."

- When you are Liverpool you cannot lose
- The reality is six out of seven
Backline Performance
Only the Clarets (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than Slot's team (nineteen). The league leaders, the North London club, have conceded only two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no basis to abandon offensive philosophy for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.
"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to alter our approach completely but we have to enhance in keeping clean sheets," he declared.
Particular Cases
"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? Versus the German side when we were ahead by two goals, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In each fixture we played until now we haven't allowed a lot of chances. Absolutely not. We do allow a bit more than the prior term but that has to do with us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't feel that our challenge is that we allow too many opportunities. Our issue is we don't score the opportunities we generate."
