The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
