The ice cream brand's Founding Partner States Parent Company Halted Pro-Palestinian Ice Cream Flavor
One of the original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.
The entrepreneur, who established the business with his partner, disclosed how he plans to independently develop this new flavor as part of an individual series showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.
Longstanding Dispute Involving Creators and Corporate Owner
This latest development escalates the ongoing tension between the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the UK-based consumer goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.
The co-founders maintain that the parent company and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".
The Fruit Flavor becoming an Emblem for Support
Mr. Cohen stated through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.
“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” Mr. Cohen commented from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”
This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, which closely resemble those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.
Historical Activism plus Recent Changes
In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.
The new dessert series is being created through Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally created several years back for endorsing former political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".
Leadership Changes plus Upcoming Intentions
Mr. Cohen revealed that he will develop other ice cream flavors that address issues which the company was prevented from speaking about openly by corporate restrictions.
The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at the company in September, following decades with the organization, mentioning worries that its independence had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.
At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."
"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can achieve the social mission, the values that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he told journalists.
