President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Guard Members to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.
He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.
The incident prompted the government to suspend refugee claims and halt providing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” he told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
