Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side just seven months after leading disrespectful chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Previous History Involving Bamford and the Manager
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Challenges
The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
