Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
