Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
