Alleged Stalker Inquired: 'But Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A individual charged with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the court learned communication data and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most covered investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate recorded message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the recording stated.
The jury was advised that through electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, a data specialist with law enforcement who gathered the information, told the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally reached out to close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On that date, the father responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court heard the co-defendant struck up a relationship online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the time leading up to the trip to the village, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court heard message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their house, the defendant transmitted a message which expressed: "We're currently sitting outside the McCanns' house with our lights out resembling private investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
